Interview

Anna Maria Negri

It’s among the acclaimed pages of Stephen King and the lyrics of the band B-52’s ‘Planet Claire’ where the chameleon essence of the Beauty Editor, Makeup Artist and Co-Founder of ‘Bullfrog Barber Shop’ Anna Maria Negri hides herself. With her glasses, colorful hair and tattoos, the ‘AristoPunk’ opens herself up in this interview, speaking of robots, vinyls, social networks, makeup and perfumes.

**Anna Maria, what was your first experience with makeup?
**

My passion for makeup has always been an integral part of myself. At 5 years old, I even asked my mother for a nail polish and a strawberry lip gloss: pure happiness!

My interest in social networks was born with Myspace, followed by Facebook, and then Youtube and LinkedIn. That being said, the platform I prefer is Instagram, because of its extreme immediacy. Unfortunately, it’s turning into a pretty invasive marketing tool. However, for me it still represents a proper window on the world of photography, where you can discover young talents.

You’re an important makeup artist, fashion editor and entrepreneur, but what’s your greatest achievement?

The birth of my son Leonardo.

Among tattoos, rebellious locks and big-framed glasses, how would you define your style?

To describe my personal style isn’t simple at all, because I like to change a lot. My father has always defined and described me as an ‘AristoPunk’. As a kid, when going shopping together, my choice would always fall upon the most expensive item despite my colourful hairdos…

You’ve worked with some of the most important, contemporary photographers, but what’s a name on the international scene you’d like to collaborate with?

The list is pretty long, but one of my favourite photographers is, for sure, the British creative Nick Knight.

What do you wear to a punk concert?

Obviously, my Schott NYC ‘Perfecto’ jacket.

Your Instagram profile has more than 5,000 posts and 24,000 followers. What’s the role of social networks in your everyday life?

My interest in social networks was born with Myspace, followed by Facebook, and then Youtube and LinkedIn. That being said, the platform I prefer is Instagram, because of its extreme immediacy. Unfortunately, it’s turning into a pretty invasive marketing tool. However, for me it still represents a proper window on the world of photography, where you can discover young talents.

Which perfume do you wear to an intimate dinner?

For me, it’s very hard to give one name only. I admit I own a proper collection of perfumes.

And what else do you collect?

Vinyls, photography books, glasses, tin robots and…tattoos.

Speaking of beauty, what’s the faux pas each and every woman makes?

Undoubtedly, applying their makeup in the wrong light.

What’s always in your bag?

My cellphone and my appointment book are pretty much essential.

Speaking of fashion and personal style, what’s the rule you always break?

I love high heels, but I hate to wear them. So, not opting for the most appropriate shoes: I even got married wearing my red Dr. Martens 20-Eye Boot! D86

And what do you always forget to pack?

I’m almost always traveling, so I’m rather organized. For me, it’s rare, very rare to forget something…

On a final note, what’s the garment you wouldn’t be able to part with?

Concerts and band T-shirts, I own several hundred!
