Benedetta Gargari

You started your career at a very young age. How were your passion for the world of acting and your career born?

It started by chance, I was chosen for an advertisement at 5 years old and then I carried on, without ever stopping. I never had private teachers, because my parents wanted me to go to public school. This job has always been like a game for me, the important thing was going to school as a child and to university afterwards.

You’ve worked with many film directors, including Ferzan Ozpetek. What was working with a director of this caliber like?

Every director I’ve worked with has left me something. The most important role I’ve ever played was with Ludovico di Martino, film director of the third season of Skam. For three weeks, morning to night, I worked with him to help me get into the character of Eleonora. It was therapeutic. Ludovico is truly number one! He’s a big brother to me.

The profession of acting is a very interesting job, every single day you have to play a different role and identify yourself with different situations. Is there a role that holds a special place in your heart?

Yes, the role of Eleonora in Skam. In the third season, her true essence comes out, whereas in the first two seasons it was hidden by a mask. Eleonora is a part of me.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start acting?

It’s one of the most beautiful jobs in the world, but I recommend to always stay grounded and also do something else as well, and to always study just as I did.

What’s your relationship with fashion?

Actually, I love to dress in things that make me feel good. I love blouses, blazers and black trousers.

What was playing the role of Eleonora, Skam’s protagonist, like? How much of Benedetta is in Eleonora? Is there anything you envy about Eleonora's character?

There’s a lot of Benedetta in Eleonora. A Benni that I often try to hide. Ludovico di Martino taught me how to bring out my weakness and turn it into strength for Eleonora.

If you hadn't starred as Eleonora, what other role would you have liked to play in Skam?

Eleonora, without a doubt! Just her.

On Instagram, you have a fan base of more than 320K followers. What’s your relationship with your fans and followers?

I don't think about what I have to say or publish. I want to be followed for who I am, so I always try to post things from my daily life, I shared my moments of despair when I was prepping for exams, myself removing my makeup, at home in pijamas with my dad and sister. I mean, I’ve always tried to feel close to them. I'm not an influencer, but I think my followers love me for this too.

Can you describe your typical day, from morning to night?

I graduated with a degree in law, and I still love to study and continue to do so, in order to enrich myself culturally. I work at a law firm, I play sports, I love to be with my family and best friends.

You also acted in Ultimo's music video for “Rondini al Guinzaglio”. How did this collaboration start?

I had been following Ultimo since his first concerts, when they proposed me to be the protagonist of the videoclip I couldn't believe it. I remember those days as one of the best memories of my life. Niccolò is a special person! I really appreciate his humility regardless of the talent he has! I listen to everything, it depends on my mood. However, Ultimo is my favourite artist.

If you had to make a ranking of the 3 best moments of your career, what would you put on the podium?

I can't answer this, but for now I'm happy like this. Maybe, I’ll be able to answer this question in a few years!

Is there a role you would’ve liked to play?

Definitely a role in a horror movie!

Benedetta, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Again, for now I can't answer this exhaustively! What I’m sure of is that I want to have a daughter and name her Aurora ♥.

Last question: if you had to write your autobiography, what would the first sentence and title be?

My sister Ludovica wrote a biography! It's called “Nothing but the Truth”. You should read it. I admire her very much. Anyhow, I don’t really know, as I don’t like to tell too much about myself. Maybe, I wouldn't have the courage to.
