MFW-Milan Fashion Week SS21

The Spring-Summer 2021 edition of MFW-Milan Fashion Week was held from the 22nd to the 28th of September 2020. In the setting of the Italian fashion capital, among short films, digital and physical shows, the most beloved labels brought the SS21 collections to the catwalk and, in doing so, they mostly resorted to live streaming and other technological expedients. Many international fashion editors, bloggers and influencers livened up, for the occasion, on the streets of Milan, sporting their best outfits. Among them, standing out was the German Caro Daur, who was spotted by our street style photographer in a total look by Roman maison Fendi. Going back to the catwalks, many different fashion brands – from Marni to Boss, Giorgio Armani, Tod’s, Salvatore Ferragamo and Versace – opted for the co-ed formula, presenting the women’s collections together with the men’s ones. For Spring-Summer 2021, Dsquared2 ideated a very audacious, bold and gritty proposal, among laces, transparencies, dizzying slits and accessories for the men and women who don’t have to ask. On the contrary, British brand A-COLD-WALL* created a series of looks for the perfect ‘urban explorer’, giving the role of common thread to nylon and technical fabrics. Moving to Italian designers, Alberta Ferretti and Alessandro Dell’Acqua with his N°21 brand brought to the catwalk, with interpretations as different as personal, a strong sense of femininity. Whereas Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana created a true patchwork, mixing and putting together typical Sicilian elements. Our favourite collection among the ones that were presented during the first day of fashion week? For sure, the proposal that, under lights and shadows, walked down the Fendi catwalk. Italian brand Max Mara combined elegance with practicality and versatility for its Spring-Summer 2021 show, dressing the modern woman – protagonist of a new Renaissance – in brocade and technical materials. Cut-outs, lettering and floral prints, for the most awaited collection of this unusual fashion week, that’s the first Prada collection to be designed, four-handed, by Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada. The so very Milanese Etro drew inspiration from a past not so far away, sending down the catwalk super colourful shirt dresses, blazers with padded shoulders, shirts tied at the waist and straight-leg trousers. As to GCDS, that closed the second day of fashion week, winning us over were the original beachwear proposals that were presented by video game characters. All in all, MFW-Milan Fashion Week Spring-Summer 2021 sent a message of positivity and expressed the willingness to start afresh, even at the cost of redefining the concept of a fashion show in a techno-digital way.
